(3 pp.) Lion Grove Garden lies on Yuanling Road, northeast of Shilinsi Lane in the city of Suzhou, near the Humble Administrator’s Garden. It was founded by the Chan master Tianshui in the Zhizheng reign of the Yuan, originally part of the Temple of the Orthodox Bodhi. In the Qianlong period of the Qing it was called Huachan Temple; the garden occupies the eastern part of the temple. At the end of the Yuan it was divided in two; in the early Qing it became a private residence of the Huang family, later an ancestral hall of the Zhou. The garden is distinguished by its rockery grottoes. When it was built, Tianshui invited the noted painters Zhu Derun, Ni Yunlin, and others to design and pile it together, modeled on famous Suzhou gardens. Jianhou
